Biometric Information Collection

Hillsboro District #3 collects biometric information from students strictly for identification and fraud prevention purposes. Biometric information may include unique physiological or behavioral characteristics such as:

  • Fingerprints

  • Hand geometry

  • Voice or facial recognition

  • Iris or retinal scans

Permission Required

State law requires written permission from a parent or guardian before collecting biometric information from students under 18. Students who are 18 or older may provide consent themselves.

How the District Protects Biometric Information

When collecting biometric data, the District follows strict guidelines to ensure privacy and security:

  1. Storage and Protection: All biometric information is securely stored, transmitted, and protected from unauthorized disclosure.

  2. No Sale or Lease: Biometric information will not be sold, leased, or otherwise disclosed to another person or entity unless:

    • You provide prior written permission, or

    • Disclosure is required by a court order.

  3. Discontinuation of Use: The District will stop using a student’s biometric information if:

    • The student graduates or withdraws from the District, or

    • A written request to discontinue is submitted by the parent/guardian or by the student if they are 18 or older.

  4. Destruction: All biometric information will be destroyed within 30 days of graduation, withdrawal, or receipt of a written discontinuation request.

The District is committed to protecting student privacy while ensuring the security and integrity of its identification systems.
